The self…

“… as we travel again between life and death,
Waking and dream, blinking, while layers within layers,
None better, none worse, unravel and knit up before us.”

Jay Woodman

To see layers upon layers unraveling, we are met with a certain type of vulnerability that may or may not cause a deep anxiousness within our minds and our hearts. We all have fears, some rational and others irrational, but most certainly take some shape or form in our lives. I think the only true way to be able to know who you are would be having the courage to explore the inner depths of what makes you you and bringing yourself into a higher emotional intelligence you experienced before.

Emotional intelligence enables you to understand yourself and others better. It is being aware. It is being truthful. It is a beautiful curse. I remember as a child being able to recognize emotional states, being pirated into other peoples chaos helped me with this, and I had the ability to feel so deeply, that when my feelings got hurt, I could feel the emotions move through out my body; straight to my fingertips, heart, and stomach. I experience this even today, but having a more mature emotional intelligence, it doesn’t consume my life. At times it can feel like you are out of control, but with a mixture of rational thinking, life experiences, and meditation, it can transform into such a wonderful thing.

Learning about yourself equips you with the tools you need to conquer the hidden layers of yourself carefully tucked away so no one can reach them. Learning about yourself aids you in knowing why you act and react to specific things, situations, and people in your life. Learning about yourself will help you love yourself better and this will help you love people dear to your heart more sincerely. Do not be afraid to see yourself abstractly because gazing through the layers that you slowly peel away allows for someone, including yourself, to see the depth and beauty of who you are and no one person could ever become an exact replica.
